At Dykes Brewery we decided early on that we would brew our beer using traditional English methods, organic ingredients and a hefty amount of love.
The history of brewing beer in Sundsvall dates back to the 1900th century, when André Oscar Wallenberg establishing the city’s first brewery – Sundsvalls Ölbryggeri – in 1858. Unfortunately, the heritage of Wallenbergs brewing business took an end in 1992 when Pripps decided to close down production in Sundsvall.
20 years later, two British beer enthusiasts – a father and his son – decided to bring more than 30 years of home brewing knowledge to the discerning beer market in the form of Dykes Brewery. The brewery is located on Alnön, a beautiful island in the archipelago of Sundsvall. The island is known by its nickname of being northern Sweden’s equivalent to Hawaii, has one of the best drinking water in Europe, and – believe it or not – is known to have diamonds. It seems there are more than one type of gems to be found on the island of Alnön.
We focus on organic materials, English craftsmanship and invite our fellow beer enthusiasts to join us in our passion of brining something new to the traditional Swedish beer market. Our beers are for connoisseur who prefers premium quality and exclusive taste rather than a low price. The truth is that we focus more on the experience than anything else. We believe brewing beer is much more than simply finding the right malt, hops, water and yeast. Our beer is suitable not only to quench thirst, but also to be consumed in connection with an amazing and suitable meal.
We aim to work with local distribution directly from the brewery on Alnön to local restaurants, pubs and Systembolaget in the region. Being close to our consumer is as important to us as the quality of the beer and its consistency. Our brewery’s local roots is and will remain an important part of the our identity.
Join us in our ambition of bringing something new and exciting to the traditional Swedish beer market!
